Just yesterday, Salman Khan announced the release of his next film Radhe; Your Most Wanted Bhai in theatres this Eid. Exhibitors and cinema owners finally heaved a sigh of relief as this would mean some silver lining in their business after being in bad shape for more than 10 months. Just when the market was looking forward to the superstar’s big releases, talks were rife that Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom will have a direct-to-digital release.
Akshay Kumar was the first actor to start work with a new project post lockdown with Bell Bottom. The actor shot for it in London and made sure he completes this drama in a short span and makes it cost-effective. However, trade buzz is strong that the makers of the film have gone to Amazon Prime to present their film and have a direct-to-digital release. Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani who had an OTT release with Coolie No 1 with Amazon Prime, are thinking to take the same route with Bell Bottom too. The makers are still in two minds whether people will flock to cinema halls amidst the pandemic and is it possible to release a big film in theatres.
Bell Bottom’s release date in theatres was supposed to be April 2. However the superstar’s other film Sooryavanshi will hit the theatres after being delayed for more than a year. So it wouldn’t make sense for Akshay Kumar to have another release so soon amidst the pandemic. Now let’s wait for the makers to make an official announcement about the film. Bell Bottom also stars Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi and Lara Dutta.
